Ripon Historical Society volunteers have compiled this index. It contains basic obituary information from newspapers dating from 1960 through the date shown above. The current protocol is to include all obituaries appearing in the Ripon Commonwealth Press and all obituaries in the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern that contain the word "Ripon" anywhere in the text. Full texts of many obituaries in this index, particularly those dated since 2000, are kept in binders at the Ripon Historical Society and can be photocopied.

Samuel Pedrick, who was the original archivist of the Ripon Historical Society, collected obituaries of Ripon area families from 1857 until 1962. Names from that earlier period may be looked up in the Pedrick Genealogical Notebooks.

Using the Obituary Index

Most columns are self-explanatory. However, please note:

• Birth and death date entries are in the American format of month/day/year
• APXBIRTH and APXDEATH stand for Approximate Birth and Approximate Death. These columns are used for missing or incomplete date information.
• A blank in the first name column and a man's name in the spouse column indicates a woman for whom no first name was given. Her obituary showed her only as Mrs. (Husband's Name).

The list is not currently searchable, other than using our website's search feature on the home page. Plans are underway to add a search feature to both the obituary index and the Pedrick databases.
