1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

The Ripon Public Library is moving it’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program to the Beanstack app! Download the free app for your smartphone or tablet or visit riponlibrary.beanstack.org

One thousand books? That seems like way too many, right? Not at all. You got this. It doesn’t matter if your child is three, or just three months – there’s no better time to start than now!

Reading helps build social and emotional skills, sparks creativity and imagination, promotes bonding, and helps kids do well overall in school. Take that motivation, open one book, and get started. And remember, 1000 is just a number. The goal is to work reading aloud into your regular routine, and let the magic of stories do the rest.

Every 100 books read earns you a FREE BOOK from our 1KB4K prize stash!

Preliteracy skills are essential to scholastic success! This initiative aims to ensure that all area children entering Kindergarten have acquired such skills through exposure to books and a language-rich early childhood experience.

According to the National Early Literacy Panel, it has become increasingly important for children entering kindergarten to already possess six preliteracy skills:

  • Alphabet knowledge
  • Phonological awareness
  • Rapid automatic naming of letters and or digits
  • Rapid automatic naming of objects or colors
  • Letter writing
  • Phonological memory

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative supports the acquisition of preliteracy skills and puts books into the hands and homes of children. Contact the library for more information.

Happy reading!
