Interlibrary Loan

If you are looking for materials that are not available at the Ripon Public Library, there's a good chance we will be able to obtain them for you from another library.

The first place to look is on the Library's shared on-line catalog which contains the holdings of many other libraries in the Winnefox Library System. Users may place reserves on most of the titles in this catalog at any Library computer, or from their home computer via the Internet from our homepage (http://www.riponlibrary.org). If you prefer to have library staff place the reserve for you, either call the Library (920-748-6160) or stop at the Circulation Desk. Please note that items requested from Winnefox libraries are NOT considered "interlibrary loan" items. They are called "holds" or "reserves."

Materials not listed in the Winnefox online catalog are often available from other libraries in the state or nation. However, very new materials may not be available and most libraries do not loan reference books. Materials requested from college and university libraries may not be available if they are currently being used by faculty or students.

If you're not sure if an item is available through interlibrary loan, a good place to check is the worldwide library catalog known as WorldCat. This electronic catalog is available for use at the Library or via the Internet. It contains millions of records from libraries throughout the country and the world. You cannot request items directly through WorldCat, but you can verify the author and title and find out what libraries own them. By giving this information to library staff, you will help the interlibrary loan process work more effectively. (ILL request forms are available at the circulation desk.) There is no charge for ILL requests - even if they come from Alaska!

Materials requested from another Winnefox system library may arrive within several days or less, depending on current circulation status, but may take considerably longer if they are in use at the libraries owning them, if they are lost or missing, or if you happen to be at the end of a long list of requests for that item. Materials requested from outside the Winnefox system may take several weeks or even months to arrive, but nine times out of ten they do get here.

To request items through interlibrary loan, either fill out an interlibrary loan request form at the circulation desk, call the Library (920-748-6160) or send an e-mail request to our .
