The Ripon Public Library is working with the Ripon Historical Society and the Ripon College Archives in an effort to digitize what is known as the Pedrick historical collection. This collection includes many resources about past Ripon residents and the history of the city, which are often sought out by local history buffs and genealogists. When finished, the collection may also be available to request on CD-ROM (for a nominal processing fee) for patrons without Internet access (or with very slow connections).
To read the genealogy notebook entries, your web browser will need the free Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® plug-in (or another compatible program). If you have Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® installed, when you click on the link for any of the names below, the reader should automatically start up in a new window, and you can view or print the PDF document. (If you don't already have this installed, you can download your free copy from Adobe® by clicking on the image to the left.) You can also search within the documents; however, due to the uneven print quality, text recognition is spotty at best, and many words will not be encoded correctly.
Also available is the Access.Adobe®.Com tool that allows blind and visually impaired users to read any document in Adobe® PDF format. The tool converts PDF documents into simple HTML or ASCII text which can then be read by a number of common screen reading programs that synthesize the HTML as audible speech. Please note: due to the quality of many of the documents, the character recognition may often be poor or completely unrecognizable.
